The article quotes Hammer’s observation that “[t]he time to be a whistleblower has never been better . . . [t]he atmosphere for whistleblowers is really receptive — federal agencies are really beginning to understand the value whistleblowers bring to their law enforcement efforts.”
Recently whistleblower attorney Dallas Hammer published an article in Law360 titled “5 Years Of Dodd-Frank: Taking Stock.” The article discusses how the Dodd-Frank Act:
Created new whistleblower protections and reinforced existing anti-retaliation provisions under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and False Claims Act;
Created whistleblower rewards programs, which have now awarded more than $50 million to whistleblowers;
Empowered the SEC’s efforts to thwart employment agreements that could chill whistle blowing; and
Has contributed to an increase in institutional advocacy for whistleblowers, including the SEC’s recent decision to bring an enforcement action based in part on whistleblower reprisal.
