Corporate Counsel Article Highlights Increase in Whistleblower Claims

An article in Corporate Counsel titled “Ride the Whistleblower Wave” discusses the increase in whistleblower litigation and quotes whistleblower attorney Jason Zuckerman about recent developments under whistleblower rewards and whistleblower retaliation laws.

The articles quotes Zuckerman’s prediction that the recent record-setting verdict in the Wadler Sarbanes-Oxley whistleblower case earlier this year will spur additional SOX whistleblower litigation by in-house counsel.  And the article cites Zuckerman’s predictions about growing areas of whistleblower law:

One growing trend involves complaints tied to cybersecurity breaches, according to Zuckerman. He says his firm is seeing an increase in workers exposing corporate breaches that were not disclosed to the public as well as revealing data security vulnerabilities at their companies, citing various state and federal laws.

Zuckerman says another hot area is visa fraud. Under the immigrant investor visa program, foreign residents can earn an EB-5 U.S. immigrant visa by making a major investment in the United States. But the SEC has found significant fraud in the program, he says, including misuse of investor funds and misrepresentations in marketing of investments to visa clients.

Cybersecurity Whistleblower Protections and Rewards

Zuckerman Law has represented cybersecurity whistleblowers, and routinely represents corporate whistleblowers in whistleblower retaliation and whistleblower rewards claims, including in Sarbanes-Oxley whistleblower actions.  Dallas Hammer has written extensively about protections for cybersecurity whistleblowers, including the following publications:

Recently, Corporate Crime Reporter interviewed Mr. Hammer about cybersecurity whistleblowing.  A summary of the interview is available online at Dallas Hammer on the Rise of Cybersecurity Whistleblowing.  And CSO quoted Mr. Hammer in an article titled Cybersecurity whistleblowers: Get ready for more.
